Have you ever seen the movie Baby Boom where the city-smart advertising
exec inherits a baby and leaves New York City to start over in Vermont?
What a fine example of knowing what we don't want as incentive to
focus on what we do want in life. Just when things are at their worst,
she invents a cool baby food product, turns her life around, becomes
rich, figures out what's important in life, finds true love, and lives
happily ever after. Ann Zuccardy's story is a real life Baby Boom.
Ann launched Vermont
Shortbread Company in 1996 because she wanted to be a stay-at-home
mom to her toddler daughter. The product gained a word-of-mouth
(pun intended) following until a divorce in 1998 forced Ann to go
back to work full time in the corporate world. Vermont Shortbread
Company took a back seat to Ann's technical writing career and creating
a safe, financially secure, nurturing home for her daughter became
her top priority.
Full time work and single
parenting left little time for Ann to develop the fledgling specialty
food business. Nevertheless, almost a decade later, Ann continues
to enjoy her career as a freelance technical writer while Vermont
Shortbread has retained its small, loyal, local following.
In April 2005, Vermont
Shortbread won a Mega Marketing Makever sponsored by author, Suzanne
Falter-Barns of Get Known Now (www.getknownnow). Included in this
package is over $4500 worth of goods and services from top marketing
gurus.
This blog chronicles
the trials and tribulations and lessons learned in Vermont Shortbread
Company's marketing makeover as Ann gratefully embarks upon the
transformation from small home-based business to national expansion.

the adventure?
